Josh Gattis recently performed at the Wake Forest Pro Day. Here are his results:

20 Yrd Dash: 2.62
10 Yrd Dash: 1.56

WFU Pro Day

20 Yrd Dash: 2.56
10 Yrd Dash: 1.50
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.35
3-Cone Drill: 6.99
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 22
Vertical Jump: 35
Broad Jump: 10'4"

Let's break down the numbers. Gattis ran at the Combine and at the Wake Forest Pro Day on FieldTurf. Both environments were said to be ideal.

Looking at the numbers, what jumps out to me are Josh's explosion numbers. At 5 lbs heavier then when he performed at the combine, Gattis improved on his straight-line speed across the board, as well as his Vertical and Broad jump. This tells me he made a concerted effort to improve in this areas, even if it meant a slight sacrifice in his agility drill speed.

You have to respect the fact that Gattis puts himself out there. He performed drill at the combine, and did it all again at the WFU Pro Day. He doesn't have anything to hide; You know what you are getting with Josh Gattis. You can look at his physical measurements and you see consistent results. You look at his college production numbers and you again see consistent results:

WFU 2005 Season
Games Played: 11
Tackles: 72
Passes Broken Up: 7
Interceptions: 5

WFU 2006 Season
Games Played: 14
Tackles: 82
Passes Broken Up: 8
Interceptions: 5

The Chargers need to take a long and hard look at Safety Josh Gattis. He is a high-character guy, a leader in the locker room, an extra coach on the field, and a willing special teamer. He is the complete package.
