Charlie Whitehurst Could Be Trade Bait

So the Chargers resigned Billy Volek for three more years but still have Charlie Whitehurst on the roster. Whitehurst is entering the third year of a four year contract and will probably never beat out the veteran Volek for the #2 QB spot on the depth chart. The Minnesota Vikings are looking for Quarterbacks and Whitehurst has everything you need to make for good trade bait; Good bloodlines, a high profile college career, experience in a top NFL offense, youth, and outstanding physical tools.

AJ Smith should make a phone call to Vikings owner Zygi Wilf and try to get the 47th pick in the draft for Charlie. Zygi said himself that they are still looking for players:

"If they fit into what we want to do to become a winner we will certainly look to do what's best to improve our ballclub," Wilf said. ''Absolutely, we're not through. We're always looking."

Whitehurst could be an improvement over Tavaris Jackson and has the potential to be the franchise QB the Vikings have been looking for. And getting a second round pick for a guy who was a third round pick is a nice payoff. It’s a win-win for everybody!
