Its a fun time for mock draft fans because the most of the respected draft guys out there are starting to update their mock drafts on a regular basis. What I find funny is that almost everywhere you look the Chargers are selecting an offensive tackle in the first round. Is Jeromey Clary that bad? I personally felt his play elevated week after week and lets not forget the team went a perfect 5-0 and then won two playoff games once he became the full-time starter at right tackle!
Scott Wright, Rob Rang, and Chad Reuter run some of the most well-known draft sites on the internet and each one of them has the Chargers taking an offensive tackle with their first round pick.
Jeff Otah or Gosder Cherilus over Felix Jones, Johnathan Stewart, or Kenny Phillips? I just don't see it. Heck, I've been wrong before, but a first round offensive lineman is just not AJ Smith's style. It certainly is a deep class, and Smith has traditionally liked to find those diamonds that other teams pass up. Guys like Sam Baker should be there past round one and there are a couple of interesting Texas boys in Oniel Cousins and Tony Hills who could make for nice developmental projects. Personally, I wouldn't be against a first round offensive lineman but I just don't envision it happening for the Chargers...
