Newberry Brings Experience And Versatility To San Diego

The Chargers yesterday signed Jeremy Newberry to a one year deal to provide them some valuable insurance along the offensive line. Newberry could easily find himself starting at center until Nick Hardwick is ready to return from his foot injury. Cory Withrow played admirably in place of Hardwick last year, but there is a noticeable drop off in offensive performance when Hardwick is out of the line up. The Bolts are looking ensure that the offensive line stays playing at a high level, and adding Newberry to the mix will elevate everyone's game. Newberry, primarily a center, can play all positions and has the size to do so (6'5" 315lbs). A former Pro Bowler, Jeremy Newberry has experience and toughness that the Chargers really love. The only troubling part of this situation is the obvious reality that Nick Hardwick is going to miss regular season time...and at this point its unclear just how much.
