We have a tremendous pick in this years draft so hopefully AJ doesn't screw this one up. AJ has a record of using our top pick with high risk factors in recent years. (Cromartie with a knee and Davis with limited playing time)I think they should pick 3 out of the 4 players up above. Maualuga, Moreno, and Wells have big game experience and could contribute immediately. Maualuga would provide more of a presence in the middle along with Cooper. His speed is a menace to opposing offenses. As for Wells, he has a durability issue. My personal pick would have to be Moreno. He has the skills of a younger LT and a tremendous fire/work ethic.

Anonymous said... Jan 26, 2009, 11:42:00 AM

I would not worry about AJ "screwing this one up". The picks you mention are an unfair comparison as they were all picked outside of the top 20 of the 1st round. Also those picks mentioned were picked when we had a pretty set roster and could afford to gamble with the pick. A better comparison would be to look at who AJ picked in the top 20.For example Philip Rivers and Shawn Merriman. They were both top 20 picks and have been phenomenal players. While I agree AJ has some rough edges and is not very media savy he has turned this franchise into a consistent winner while building through the draft and managing the cap well. I for one do not understand the critism leveled at him. AJ do what you do best and get the best "football player" available with the pick!

Anonymous said... Jan 27, 2009, 9:54:00 AM

Yes 90% of current starters have joined the team through the draft. That's pheonominal. But he has bungled last two drafts. Buster Davis in the first round. Giving up picks (to the Pats!) to move up to get Hester when Steve Slaton was still on the board. I'd say jury is still out on Weddle. This pick is huge and we need an impact player. If Moreno is still on board, that's a lock. If not one of the linebackers from USC or Ayers from Tennesse.

Anonymous said... Feb 1, 2009, 2:41:00 PM

AJ Smith is overrated. Butler was the really mastermind behind the Chargers recent success! He's just riding Butler's coat tails!

Anonymous said... Feb 1, 2009, 10:29:00 PM

Is Jon Butler channeling a draft from the grave ? Stupidest thing I have seen in awhile...

Anonymous said... Feb 2, 2009, 9:35:00 AM

I agree with AJ Smith being overrated! Drafting "Bust" Davis in the 1st round, giving up tons of picks to move up an undersize safety in Weddle, and the picks he gave up for a "tweener" in Hester, one can only wonder how many Superbowls the Chargers could have won if Bulter was alive! In my opinion, with the Chargers talent and better draft decisions they could have easily been a dynasty!

Steve said... Feb 2, 2009, 3:06:00 PM

AJ didn't just give up a "ton" of picks for Weddle. He traded a bunch of picks with limited value (and for which we already had compensation picks in the same area of the draft) to get a player who has developed into a fine starting safety. The draft point value chart shows that AJ was hardly ripped off for the pick he got, and instead of drafting a bunch of low round guys who probably would be cut we got a quality starter.

As for Davis, two years and you call him a bust? By that measure Jackson, Brees, Rivers etc are all busts. Have a little patience.

Anonymous said... Feb 2, 2009, 4:50:00 PM

You know Davis won't get playing time unless Chambers is shipped out. AJ better resign Floyd though or he is one dumb man.

Anonymous said... Feb 3, 2009, 9:50:00 PM

AJ needs to resign Floyd and maybe Sproles. Sign JJ Arrington and a RT like Khalif Barnes or Stacy Andrews and trade Chambers for Dawan Landry with the Ravens who is a RFA in a sign and trade. Chambers is 5 millions against the cap and is 30 years old and his contract expires and I doubt AJ retains him so Landry will free up a pick in the draft and give us a legit safety.

Anonymous said... Feb 5, 2009, 9:17:00 PM

^ Forget my Arrington comment. I found a better guy:
1st: Rey Maualuga MLB USC
3rd:Patrick Chung SS ORE
4th:Alex Magee DE/DT Purdue
4th:Augustus Parrish OT Kent St.
5th:Ray Feinga OG BYU
5th:Will Davis OLB/DE Illinois
6th:Kaluka Maiava LB USC
7th:Branden Ore RB West Liberty St.
Sign:Stacey Andrews OT,Antonio Smith DE, Kevin Jones (cheap RB)
UDFA:Marlon Favorite DT LSU, Greg Carr WR Fl st.

Anonymous said... Feb 7, 2009, 7:46:00 AM

Are we to get a couple compensatory 3rd rounders this year?

Rob Zepeda said... Feb 7, 2009, 9:53:00 AM

Compensatory picks have not been awarded yet by the NFL

Anonymous said... Feb 7, 2009, 11:17:00 AM

what we need to do is get a SS in the draft, Hart is a bum out the. from there I would go to OL. G or T as Clary could and i think would make a better G. After that we need a ILB to go with Waters as i feel this could be the year he breaks out and becomes a good player. I know we wont make much FA news so all we have is the draft. We got Hester so why not give him the ball and save a pick for a spot on the roster that we need to fill. As for Davis, We seem to let are player set for a few years before we really let them play. Rivers, Cromartie, Weddle, ect. So I think thats its Davis's and Waters turn to make and impact.

Anonymous said... Feb 7, 2009, 5:03:00 PM

^ Are you serious? Waters? You do know LBs usually breakout their first 1 or 2 years? Albeit he was injured but I rather have him play OLB and cut Tuckers contract. Cooper is our best ILB yet your saying he sucks. WOW

Anonymous said... Feb 7, 2009, 8:21:00 PM

yeah Cooper suck, we have no ILB's Waters is in the same boat as Cromartie would have been a high pick if not hurt, he's big, fast and has a chance to make an impact at ILB cus we dont have anyone worth a shit there you just dont know it cus like I said we like to set are players for a year or two, let them learn the plays so they know what there doing and that HAS been working for us well.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 9:58:00 AM

Wow your an idiot. Cooper was probably our best player on defense next to Jamal Williams. Oh well he will be the starter and you don't know jack.... about football anyway. Now tell me what makes Waters better then Cooper? Actually tell me why Cooper sucks? Is it his effective run stopping ability or the best cover skills out of all our LBs? I'm curious tell me.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 12:38:00 PM

Cooper sucks because he's a cheat. He's probably shooting his ass cheek up with an exotic roid as we read this blog.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 12:42:00 PM

Jammer was one of the best defensive players if not the best this season, I am amazed people so easily forget his name. He makes crucial tackles, and much like Weddle was a late bloomer in terms of performance.

Jury is out, but i do like Waters and Siler, and believe they will continue to improve. I didn't particularly like what I saw from Tucker this year.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 1:39:00 PM

Waters has alot more skill, just like all our other young players he sits, learns the play book, then makes an impact. Cooper is a backup player, he's out there cus he has be in SD for so long sitting on the bench that he knows the play book well, It's not that his is the best ILB we got, But it was better at the time to put him out the and let Waters and Siler learn the play book then to put them out there and have them try to play and learn the play book, Now there up to speed and ready to impact the D. As for Jamal Williams, you must have been looking at tape from a few years ago, he was the best NT in the game then, now after both knee's messed up and getting older its all down hill. The 3-4 D need a beast of a NT in it and Williams is just not the guy he once was. But in his prime he was the best. As much as i hate to say it, its time to move on there as well. Now we need a SS, and as Jammer is getting older, I think we could save a pick for a few years and move Jammer to SS and move Cason up to starting CB that would make a good secondary. Lots of CB move to S when they start getting older to play longer and we have a hole in the secondary, and his name is Hart. You call me an idiot but yet your the one that thinks Coopers is this great ILB. If hes so great why the hell at 30 years old is he just now a starter? Look's like your the idiot that don't know what the hell he's talking about

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 7:11:00 PM

So did you not realize that you know what you have with most LBs when you get them? Siler is a good role player. Not sure what Waters is. But for a LB or RB they don't need to develop they should be able to play right away. Hopefully Waters can start opposite Cooper. So you still didn't tell me who is better then Cooper? Who proved it? Jamal Williams next to Jammer was probably our best defensive player on this crap D. So is Merriman shooting steroids into his butt? Is that what your implying also? Or does he get the benefit of the doubt. You must be retarded if you think this league is juice free. It probably has more juicers then baseball. How do you think these guys recover from injuries and stay big? Hmm lets see maybe cause he came in undrafted idiot. He became a starter at 28 learn how to count and played behind Godfrey and Edwards or do they suck too? If Waters and Siler are such studs how come that piece of crap Wilhelm still gets playing time? How come Dobbins beat them out for a job? I already know Hart is crap and if they were going to move Jammer to safety it already would've happened. So SS should be addressed via draft or FA. So your saying Williams sucked balls this season? Maybe you should stop sniffing markers cause he still did well. Skill? A lot of players run the 40 at 4.3 that requires skill yet they suck. I hope Waters emerges as an OLB opposite Merriman his physical gifts are more valuable there. They don't need 3 years to learn the playbook. Norv came in so it was back to square one with all the players so looks like your logic is flawed.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 7:13:00 PM

But thats okay Cooper is still going to be starting and only you will be enraged by it. Tell me why did our defense suck even more with Cooper out then when he was in? Who made 4 picks? More then Cromartie? Waters being out means what? Tell me when he actually does something in a game cause he looks like a bust right now. Siler has done more then Waters.

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 7:57:00 PM

Edwards and Godfrey were good, Cooper and Wilhelm are just fill in guys tell are young guys are ready

Anonymous said... Feb 8, 2009, 8:33:00 PM

Well the only guy who has potential as an impact starter is Waters. So unless we draft a stud Cooper is still starting. Even Rivera likes his play so I guess our LB turned D Coord. won't part with him soon.

Anonymous said... Feb 9, 2009, 6:30:00 PM

Wilhelm is replaceable, but Cooper is a quality starter and the leader of the defense.

Anonymous said... Feb 10, 2009, 4:16:00 PM

Cooper is a stud. We just need someone who can step up beside him and it will probably be Waters. We'll know for sure next year about him. We can't keep going back and forth with Wilhelm (who can't stop the run) and Dobbins (Who can't cover a Lineman, but, stud against the run).

Anonymous said... Feb 10, 2009, 6:49:00 PM

Cooper is a life-time backup.

Anonymous said... Feb 11, 2009, 2:32:00 PM

Whoever thinks Cooper isn't a good linebacker knows nothing about the Chargers or football in general and should spend some time observing the game instead of blogging.

Anonymous said... Feb 11, 2009, 5:16:00 PM

A stud?? so if you could pick any ILB out of the NFL you would pick Cooper?? You all are a bunch of SLAPNUTTZ.

Anonymous said... Feb 11, 2009, 9:14:00 PM

Cooper is a solid inside linebacker but needs another strong linebacker by his side. Willhelm sucks. Waters is injury prone. Hart sucks. Weddle is undersized. Don't give up on Hester. He'll probably come in 20 lbs heavier next year and he was already blocking better at the end of the year.

Anonymous said... Feb 12, 2009, 12:58:00 PM

Obviously Cooper wouldn't be the first choice. But who are we going to get? Ray Lewis? Bart Scott? Cooper is the mos reliable option for ILB. So stop trying to make it look like you know what your talking about when it comes to Charger football.

Anonymous said... Feb 12, 2009, 2:14:00 PM

To the guy who doesn't know what he's talking about regarding Coop. here are the hard facts.
SACK 1.5
That's with missing 4 games. Please try to find me 10 linebackers that are in that league....please.

Anonymous said... Feb 12, 2009, 7:52:00 PM

Jay Cutler rules !!!!!!!

Anonymous said... Feb 13, 2009, 1:58:00 PM

Jay Cutler sucks as do the Broncos...

bruce said... Feb 13, 2009, 10:39:00 PM

Forget drafting for a safety......switch Vincent Jackson to the defensive side and develop him into another Steve Attwater. I'm sure VJ will love reading this one.

Terry said... Feb 14, 2009, 12:50:00 AM

All those numbers don't mean much (Cooper) when taken in reality. Just as our previous LB led the team in tackles for three yrs, when they happen six yards beyond the line of scrimmage, they don't mean much. I'm one that thinks Cooper is not that good. MLB or Safety with the first pick and our "D" goes back to being the monster it was two yrs ago. Consider Chambers gone and it's now or never for Buster Davis to stop being hurt and show why he was a top draft choice. Igor is thank goodness gone. I trust completely in AJ no matter some of you idiots think.

Anonymous said... Feb 14, 2009, 10:13:00 AM

Your an idiot. That is Wilhelm who makes tackles past the line of scrimmage. Cooper makes his right away and if a pass is caught on him its usually due to him having to cover for a long time due to a pathetic pass rush. So your saying Edwards and his 130 tackles per year were cause he sucked? D'Qwell Jackson and Willis too? I didn't know that a guy needed all his 100 tackles to be TFL. Wilhelm is the exception he can't even stop a run in the back field to save his life. The guy who said move Jackson to safety is an idiot.

Anonymous said... Feb 14, 2009, 1:08:00 PM

Stephen Cooper makes plays. Whoever thinks that Cooper is a backup didn't watch the Chargers week in and week out. You're not a true BOLT FAN!!! Cooper makes plays behind the line of scrimmage and can make plays down the field ala his 4 interceptions. In fact, of all the Charger linebackers he was the only one that had an impact!! What everyone is forgetting is Shawn Phillips didn't do anything last year and he didn't miss a game??!! The Chargers need Waters to replace Wilhelm and Tobbins and they need someone to replace Hart. What they also need is to replace Jamal Williams. Luis Castillo also needs to step up! How come no one mentioned him. He didn't do anything of significance this past season and even admitted that at the beginning of the season he wasn't aggressive enough THAN his play still didn't improve even after he admitted he didn't play well enough - he needs to get back up to the Castillo we know. Also, for the offense, does anyone notice that the Chargers hardly run to the right of the offensive line? I don't know how opposing teams don't notice that. LT has made a career of running to the left!! The right side needs to be REPLACED so we can have more options in our running game which will help the whole offense and LT's stats!! Replace J. Williams, Clinton Hart, start Waters in front of Dobbins and that will take care of the defense. On offense we need to replace the RT and RG. LT has two more good years and there are no stud running backs so leave him alone. Sign Darren Sproles to a 6 year contract - he is a touchdown waiting to happen so why ever let him go? I say they get a NT in the draft but only B.J. is the only one that can replace Williams but we won't get him so get a SS or a RT. By the way, some of you need to go back to school to improve your grammar. I feel like I'm reading comments from 7th grade dropouts.

Anonymous said... Feb 14, 2009, 3:56:00 PM

Castillo did play bad but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for this year since he has done more for the Bolts then Olshansky but not really worth the money he is getting. Anyway not sure why you want to replace Jamal Williams he was our best defensive player. We need to get a guy like Moala or Brace to be mentored by Jamal so they can take over. Jamal Williams is still a beast. Cooper was awesome this year. BJ is not the only guy who can replace Jamal Williams. We need to get Huff after he gets cut and put him in our system so he can thrive. Or draft Chung or Vaughn. Waters plays OLB currently so I don't think he is the answer anymore. Maybe Siler steps up. Maybe we draft Worrell Williams or Kaluka Maiava. You may know your grammar but you don't know your football. What SS would be worth a 1st rounder? Delmas as a reach? Unless one of the big 4 OTs drops to us then we don't go RT.
1st:Fili Moala DT USC or Tyson Jackson DE LSU (trade down)

whoever is saying stephen cooper is a backup and sucks is a complete idiot and should not talk football anymore. he has become one of the best ILB in the league. statistics aside, ron rivera compares cooper to urlacher one of the best LB around and says cooper is pro bowl calibur and one of the best ilb in the game right now and will only get better. you are saying you know more than ron rivera????? does us all a favor and kill yourself

jaybay4143 said... Feb 20, 2009, 5:25:00 AM

I can admit that Davis is having a tough time, but as you can see, it takes some time for receivers to develop (i.e. Ted Ginn, Braylon Edwards, Santanio Holmes) Vincent Jackson took years to develop and I think before this year many thought that he was a bust. I think Buster will be fine, but it is tough because we have very talented receivers. Cromartie will be fine, I don't know if I can say he was hurt, but I think the mental lapse of the big play by Reggie Wayne in the Indy game punctuated his season pretty well. One big mental lapse. It made me absolutely sick to see him get lit up by Brandon Marshall in the season's second game.

If you look at the film when Rivers was getting pressured last year, it was primarily the right side of the line (Clary) that was putting pressure on Rivers. In regards to the linebacking core I really think that Dobbins or Waters will come in and play next to Cooper really well. The reason why our defense was a mess was one reason- the best Defensive Player in the NFL was injured. Do you see how imbalanced our offense can be without LT?(see pittsburgh) The reason why Sproles did so well at Indy was that he was not game-planned for exclusively like he was in Pittsburgh.

When Merriman comes back he will play with a vengeance because he will be playing for a contract, as will Cromartie, and Jackson I believe. When Merriman comes in next year everyones stats will be up. Just wait and see.

As for the pick perhaps there is no safety that is worthy of the #16 pick, but the need must be addressed somehow. For years we have been suffering with the loss of Rodney Harrison. And we need to find someone in the mold of an Ed Reed/Troy Polumalu fast. A LB/CB hybrid who can strike the fear God into opposing recievers. I have been sick with the pathetic play of the safeties (although Weddle's season was good, he cannot "pop" recievers that makes them think twice about going over the middle).

If it were my choice, I would seriously look at a running back at#16 as LT's replacement. He has a maximum of 2 years left, and who better than to learn from one of the greatest of all time in LT?

The other choice with #16 must be tackle, Rivers had way too many opportunities to become injured last year, and why can we only run to the left? Its a little too easy to game plan for our running game.

Again we must find a elite safety, sign one, trade for one whatever you have to do.

Perhaps trade down and pick up a second round pick?

Believe it. The way to winning the Superbowl is with a strong Running game and Defense. (In the mold of Pittsburgh, Tennesee, Baltimore) Finesse in the end looks nice, but Defense (and a grind it out running game) wins championships.

I'm out.

Rob Zepeda said... Feb 20, 2009, 8:27:00 AM

Fantastic take jaybay4143! It'll be interesting to see what happens with LT over the weekend. If the Chargers are having a hard time getting LT and Sproles to sign new deals, their hand might be forced come draft day to pick a top running back...

Anonymous said... Feb 21, 2009, 2:17:00 AM

Draft Chung or Chip Vaughn there you go with a hard hitting SS possibly in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Weddle is a good compliment. I would like Siler to get looks at the starting position he is GREAT against the run, his pass coverage can be covered by Merrimans pressure. Anything but Wilhelm is an upgrade. jaybay your right we do need a LT so we can move McNeil over to RT. I think since our window is now sign Tra Thomas or Jon Runyan who still play well but are up there in age. Our window is now so why not. If Cro falters Cason should get the nod. Oliver should be our back up and a guy like Chung could start day 1 like Reggie Nelson of the Jags. It allows us to cut Hart also.

Anonymous said... Feb 21, 2009, 12:05:00 PM

why the hell would you move McNeil to RT you dumb shit. He is are LT and will be tell he retires. you say 2 years for LT so we got a year or two, no need to waste a pick on the shit RB in the Draft, wait tell next year there will be better RB. SS first pick, RT 2nd pick more CB and WR are good to get late rounds we got are top CB and WR so we just need guys that are young to come up behind them. by the way anyone that thinks Cooper is as good or better the urlacher is a fag, Cooper sucks, and will suck cant stop the run tell they gain 7-10 yards on us and is about the same as Hart in coverage, and thats not sayin much, they both suck and need to be cut.

Anonymous said... Feb 21, 2009, 10:29:00 PM

Oh look its that idiot who thinks Cooper sucks again. So again I ask you which LB has this amazing 100 TFLs?Your the dumb shit you spelled 'till' 'tell'. Anyways if you think McNeil has been a stud at LT after his rookie year then you are mentally retarded. He sucked. Let me guess you though he did good last year huh haha dumbass. He is too slow to handle speed rushers.Clearly a RT but only a dumbass like you thinks he isn't. About the same as Hart in coverage? Hmm Cooper had 4 ints, 6 pdf in only 12 games. Hart had 8 pdf and 0 INTS dumbass. Looks like your a pure idiot and he made a clutch int to stop the bleeding in the miracle Chiefs game. The only person who is comparing Cooper to Urlacher is Ron Rivera. So your saying your smarter then Rivera? So when are you getting hired as the D coordinator moron.

Anonymous said... Feb 21, 2009, 11:10:00 PM

Jay Cutler RULES, Rivers can't hold his jock.

Anonymous said... Feb 23, 2009, 2:19:00 AM

I predict that with the 16th pick in the 2009 NFL draft the San Diego chargers will select OT Eben Britton out of the University of Arizona... I'm not saying whether its a good pick or bad, just that will be the pick. AJ knows its either Super Bowl next year or its curtains for him. As such drafting an O lineman is the safest pick. They dont require years to develop and can have a huge effect on the team. And besides next year's RB class will be deeper and better.

Anonymous said... Feb 23, 2009, 8:10:00 PM

Our Chargers are loaded with talent if AJ is smart like we all think he is, He will pass our first and third for Mr. Peppers who said that he wanted to play for a 3/4 team. Jamal,Peppers and Merriman. DAMMN !

Anonymous said... Feb 23, 2009, 10:54:00 PM

Wow Peppers. So when we lose Merriman for 2010 cause Peppers carries a huge contract will you be happy? Dumbshit do you even know our cap situation?

Anonymous said... Feb 27, 2009, 2:02:00 AM

Waters was released.

Anonymous said... Feb 27, 2009, 9:59:00 AM

Whoever posted that Butler wa sthe mastermind behind the Bolts' recent success is a MORon.. Yes he drafted L.T. and Brees, he also drafted (63) Trevor Gaylor, (67)Tay Cody, (132) Elliot Silvers and (137) Zeke Moreno who are all busts out of 2001 Draft, 2002 Draft, YES he drafted Q Jammer at #5, but he also drafted (39) Funoti and (48) Reche Caldwell most notable names who are busts also. So before you bash AJ, look at the draft history first....

He should stay and will stay, hopefully he restructures his contract. And those who think that its a slap in the face him making less than Sproles if he do restructures, again is a moron. L.T. is not and never was about money, he wants to win a Championship, Sproles will make more than L.T. this year only unless a long term deal is made, then He will not make more than L.T.

First if we can bring in a free agent LB or Safety before April's draft will determine which way we go, I'm no General Manager but depending on what free agency brings, I will rather move a few spots down and pick up a 2nd or an extra 3rd round pick, Also how about an option of moving Cason or CRO to safety and make them ball hawks like Ed Reed or Polomalu, then we can pick up the best talent available instead of a need....

Anonymous said... Feb 27, 2009, 2:24:00 PM

All of u post criticism against Eric Weddle, but if u remember he is in his second year. He was a consistent tackler and was always around the ball when runs got passed the line, which happened a lot. He has a good attitude and a huge amount of potential, if he plays at the same level next year as he did last year, with a full training camp under Rivera i would expect him to have a pro-bowl caliber year or be very close to it

Sure we need an offensive tackle but by the 16th pick, all the elite tackles will have been taken and San Diego could easily get a nice OT in the 2nd round...I stress Maualuga because of his style which is so similar to Merriman's and I really feel that they could feed off eachother for establishing a complete "smack em in the mouth" defense. Merriman could also polish Maualuga into a supreme LB even more so than Maualuga could do on his own.

well we got Kevin Burnett ILB from Dallas. he's a good player and I'm sure we got him for the right price. makes us a lot better at ILB

Anonymous said... Mar 11, 2009, 5:32:00 PM

At least for this year, I think we DO NOT need to pick up another running back. I think the Bolts should split the starting position between Sproles and LT. Contrary to what most are saying, LT still has a few good years left in him.
As for the draft, we need to get a good ILB and SS. I think our first pick should be Rey Maualuga. For our next pick should be Patrick Chung.

not going to draft ILB, we got Kevin Burnett. He should win the starting spot next to Cooper so we are good there now, not great but good. we really need a SS Hart is a bum. we resigned Kynan Forney who will replace Mike Goff at RG. so what do we need, we let Igor Olshansky go to Dallas so we now need a DE. just signed LT for 3 years, and not that good of backs in this draft dont think we will go there. SS then DE maybe even a WR if theres on thats any good later rounds. besides look at some of the later round HB's from last years class, no need to spend a 1 round pick on that.

i cant believe this crap i mean why does the chargers orginization keep trying to screw them. First of all i personally feel the chargers need to go out in the first round and get Chris "Beanie" Wells. We need a hard running tail back what we lacked last season, also we need a good inside backer and a deep threat cause im sick and tired of having big slow ass recievers. Now to be honest im not a philip rivers fan but the man has skills you cant deny that he's just a dumbass but anyways give him and LT some help strengthin the interior of our defense and gosh darn it we will finally win a SuperBowl

rafeefatoohi said... Mar 23, 2009, 2:51:00 AM

focus should be on our secondary, thats all i got to say, they should know which hole we need to fill, merriman should fix our problems there but a safe pick on D will help us get to the superbowl, O.t as our second pick overall

rafeefatoohi said... Mar 23, 2009, 3:00:00 AM

I dont think chung will be there for the third round for us... What do you all think we should do if andre smith is still available by the 16th pick,,,, Take a chance on a beast on the field but a bum after his work is done, A. smith, good pick or bust?

rafeefatoohi said... Mar 23, 2009, 3:30:00 AM

Oh bye the way some of you huge charger fans, dont forget we do not have a pick in the second round, im all in of trading pick 16 for late first and second round

Why do guys like to complicant things?! Chargers need to improve the defense, plain and simple! The offense was solid last year even with a suspect O-line. We all know the defense will be better with Merriman back, but when we had a healthy Merriman in the playoffs and we still didn't make it to the SB. Any 1st rd defensive player AJ chooses will make this defense tougher.

My wish list for the 16th pick..

LB Brian Cushing, not likely to be there but u never know what ace AJ has up his sleeve...

DL Peria Jerry, can start right away, then move to NT when Jamal is done..

MLB Rey Maualuga, how can AJ pass on the next Junior.. then again AJ did cut junior.

DE Tyson Jackson, quicker and more athletic than Igor..

OLB Larry Ayers, could be this draft's version of Lites Out. We could NEVER have enough pass rush!!!

OLB Everette Brown, this beast is unblockable!

OLB Aaron Maybin, explodes off the line like Usain Bolt!! ok, maybe Bolt the dog...

You never what AJ is going to do. You'd be lying if you had the Bolts taken Antoine Cason last year..
I trust AJ will make the right decision.. Although I haven't forgotten he passed on the opportunity to draft Troy Polamalu for Sammy freakin Davis and Robotussin's Terrence Kiel. As you recall, that was the off season AJ got rid of Junior and Rodney.

How awesome would it have been if Troy was in our secondary. Polamalu is like, if Seau made sweet love to Rodney, and Junior forgot his Trojan, got Rodney pregnant, and 9 months later rodney is giving birth to that crazy, samoan afro!!!(that was my Pineapple Express moment)

sounds like your gay moment, do you have gay moments off tend?

Anonymous said... Mar 30, 2009, 8:45:00 PM

i definetly agree that we need an inside linebacker or a safety, rey would be nice but we need to give some shine to siler, he still young but if you get hit by him, well good luck.

Anonymous said... Apr 3, 2009, 9:07:00 PM

chargers should draft Rey Maualuga

dat foo is a beast

imagine this LOLB shawne merriman
MLB rey Maualuga
and ROLB shaun Phillips

Anonymous said... Apr 4, 2009, 4:45:00 PM

ia gree with ^ that combination of linebackers would definetly be a dominant force and chargers will be very dangerous

Yaseen said... Apr 6, 2009, 3:24:00 PM

Okay here is what is probably gonna happen.

We are definitely gonna draft at these positions:
ANYWHERE in the front seven ( LB, DE, DT )
An offensive tackle possibly Michael Oher.
I'm leaning towards a DE cause olshansky is gone.

Running back, due to the current situation. It's weird how darren sproles hasnt even signed his tender yet, no ones really noticed.

Safety, eric weddle is a great tackler and clinton hart is a good ballhawk, he just had a down year.

Wide Receiver- Chris Chambers is not gonna be resigned, we need some speed.

Anonymous said... Apr 7, 2009, 5:18:00 PM

Clinton Hart has had a down year his whole career and he in no way is a ballhawk he's an under sized back up linebacker at best who should not even be in the NFL.

Anonymous said... Apr 8, 2009, 10:58:00 PM

Hart had a decent year in 2007. He battled injuries most of the year in 2008. All things considered he can play safety. He will never be confused for an elite safety but for cap reasons he can be a solid part to a great team. We have to fix the pass rush and the secondary will get back to 2007 form.

A.J. Smith is a pompous @#$%. His last two drafts have sucked. And we have no second round pick this year because he overreached for Weddle when A) he didn't have to and B) he wasn't that good to merit it. Oh yeah, and he also let go very important veteran leadership a la Donnie Edwards, Randall Godfrey, Lo Neal and quality players like Turner. The only reason he has admitted anything he did wrong is because smart people have been screeming it for the last two years and talking about it openly. Morons who blindly follow him with ridiculous epithets like "in A.J. I trust" which I distinctly remember on many message boards are now eating their words. Except for you apparently.
