Detriot Lions To Meet With Ron Rivera About Vacant Head Coaching Position

The Detroit Lions have begun their search for the man who will turn the historic winless 2008 Detroit Lions into a playoff contender, and San Diego Chargers Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera is on that prestigious list of candidates.

Adam Schefter of first reported this, and San Diego Chargers Head Coach Norv Turner later confirmed that Rivera will indeed meet with the Lions on Tuesday.

While I think Rivera will use this as an opportunity to keep his name fresh in the head coaching candidacy list, I find it hard to believe he would leave an opportunity to remain in San Diego for at least one more season to take over the almost insurmountable task of making the Detroit Lions an actual pro football team. Keep in mind that Shawne Merriman is on track to play next season and the San Diego Chargers will certainly use the NFL Draft to reload the defense. Rivera would be passing up the chance to drastically increase his stock if he were to leave now.
