Rodney Harrison On LT: The Kid Can Still Play!

By now I'm sure y'all are tried of hearing about this non-issue; Over-blown and perpetuated by the media, the idea that Ladainian Tomlinson would not be a San Diego Charger in 2009 is downright ridiculous if you ask me. Anyone who has followed this team, it's ownership, and it's management, knows that Ladainian Tomlinson is the heart and soul of the Chargers. His impact, both on and off the field, is immeasurable. LT is one of those unique players who is the legitimate face of a franchise and one of the most marketable and recognizable players in the NFL.

In addition to guys like myself, hall of fame safeties with ties to San Diego also are sticking up for Tomlinson. We've heard from John Lynch, calling the thought of LT in another uniform "premature and foolish" and now we are also hearing Rodney Harrison throw his two cents into the ring. Harrison, a former teammate of Tomlinson but interestingly also a current opponent of his as well, had this to say about #21:

The kid can still play...he can still play! When you’re 20 years old and you miss a few games, they give you an excuse. They give you a pass: “oh he’s young, he just got hurt.” As soon as you turn 30 all of the sudden you “lose a step” and they say you can’t play anymore. I’ve played against Ladainian; the guy has tremendous speed, he has great power, he has great vision, and it would be a huge mistake for the San Diego Chargers to let this future Hall Of Famer go. [Not to be overlooked] is the impact he has on the locker room, as well as in the community. LT is one of my favorite guys, but I’ll tell you this LT: Beware, because if they did it to me and I played nine years there, and they did it to Junior Seau, they’ll do it to you.

Keep LT in San Diego and you’ll be happy. He’s directly responsible for filling that stadium. Let me tell you, I wouldn’t even be paying attention to San Diego if LT wasn’t playing.

You have to think that should the San Diego Chargers decided to release Tomlinson, the New England Patriots would be picking up the phone in a heartbeat. With only a championship ring missing from LT's trophy case, it would have to be hard for him to pass up the opportunity to play for a contender like the Patriots, especially considering the ex-Chargers currently on that team.
For those who think LT should be released or traded, has your opinion changed over the last couple of weeks? Or are you still of the position that Tomlinson is hurting the team and not helping it? And for those who support LT, do you think he has a future in San Diego or are you worried that we're approaching a boiling point between the Tomlinson's camp and the Chargers front office?

Yea all this talk about LT leaving is ridiculous. I dont even see how they can put that together in one sentence. But as much as I love the Chargers, if AJ was dysfunctional enough to let him go...i would be happy FOR LT to go to a contender like the Patriots (even as much as I hate the Patriots!!) least he would still be in a good position to be a champion..I would be happy for LT as long as he wins a Superbowl..with or without SD =( And that would be a good punch to AJ's face if he does...
But definitely hope that he does stay so we can bring a trophy home!

I wonder if AJ Smith ever reads any of the fans comments or is he another high level executive that thinks he is to good to see what the public is saying. Ladaian Tomlinson is still a great running back. Look what he was doing towards the end of the season when he was starting to get healthy. His knee sprain last season was not because of age!!! I t was because of just a freak sprain when he was getting spun around. Even you players can get hurt so why blame everything on age?!! What makes anyone blame his torn tendon on age. How does anyone know it has anything to do with age? Maybe it was just a matter of time because it was starting to tear anyway? There is no running back that can come in and do better. He is still a 1400 yard running back to me. Can the Chargers find anyone better? NO - so stop tinkering and leave things alone.

the idea of him losing a step, can be tied directly to the offense switching from a run offense, to a pass offense.his numbers began to "decline" when norv took the helm and decided they were going to pass more. that alone will drop any running backs numbers. then you release, not lose, let go of an all pro blocking fullback, which LT made most of is yards behind, on norv's say so. dropped his numbers even more.

chemistry and formula are key. you take a run offense and try to turn them into a pass offense overnight, or even in two seasons. they've been blocking for LT for 6 seasons, and they did it well. and to top it off LT made most of his numbers oon the power O formation to the left side. now they're most creative play is up the middle. LT's strength was to run off the corners.

all that pounding up the middle, will where "any" back down. reguardless of age. and all of LT's "injuries came off of freak plays, while he was trying to do everything he could to help his team to get to and win in the post season.

they sent Rodney away. they sent Seau away. they sent Brees away. san diego was better with these guys than without them. and we're better with LT than without him.

peace out

LT should agree to a restructured contract that will allow the Chargers to resign Sporles. This combination will allow LT to take a few less snaps per game next year, and still be a force for the team.

Keep LT!

There have been better players at that position the last two seasons. That's a cold hard fact. So why wouldn't the team be concerned about paying such a high price for him? Get someone else who can give you a better opportunity to win. Winning cures all ills.
