Chargers Release Clinton Hart

EDIT: The Chargers released SS Clinton Hart and resigned DT Ian Scott who they released back in September. This has been confirmed by multiple sources. Props to Roman Oben for breaking the story.

Via former Charger lineman Roman Oben's twitter account:

"Chargers have released safety Clint Hart. Solid player who could contribute to any NFL team."

The Chargers released Clinton Hart to make room for Ian Scott - does this make any of you feel better about the defense?

Kevin Ellison, time to step up and show that you want it. Clearly Hart lacked "Heart" when on the football field. Afraid to hit someone and get his pretty jersey dirty. What a joke.

It puts a lot of pressure on rookie Ellison quickly, but now it's "Show Time!" and cause for demonstrating why you're paid. Hart has been at a low plateau for some time, so congratulations Kevin. Now earn it.
Besides, the D-line desperately needs healthy beef, so taking in Ian Scott immediately is an absolute necessity. He knows our system and his teammates, Boone looked bad before, and the Man-with-No-Name from Texas has yet to be in on a single play; a ghost, only a rumor of a hint of hearsay of supposed NFL talent. Welcome back Ian!!! Go get 'em!

Holy smokes, that was long, long overdue.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Possibly the worst "starter" on the defense, and the way this defense has played lately, that's saying a lot.

Are you people forgeting Ellison is a rookie. Whats next fans, hang this kid for not playing at a pro bowl level this year. I agree hart was not the answer.Strong Safety takes time to get good at. Yall will be all over him after the Broncos game, he was not perfect.

Clinton Hart is a perfect example of the way AJ has screwed up this team. When did Hart ever show any signs of being anything more than a backup. He has never been any good and he's started for 2 years. I had as much faith in AJ as anyone after the way he started in SD, but since those few amazing drafts, moves like these have caused me to seriously doubt his ability as a GM. I would say he is the best drafter in the NFL, but the last three drafts have sucked. I'm starting to believe more and more that Marty was fully responsible for our dominance in 06 and AJ took it personally. I mean everything has fallen apart on us since Marty's departure and yes Norv deserves most of the blame, but doesn't it seem like AJ has sucked just as much since Marty left and who hired Norv. The fact that Clinton Hart was able to accomplish what he did (as far as being a starter and stuff) at the pathetic level he was playing at shows me that AJ is not the genius I once thought him to be. In fact the moves AJ has made since Marty's departure are some of the worst in the league, and none is worse than his continued faith in Norv. Its like Norv and AJ have teamed up to destroy the team that Marty and AJ built. Are there 2 different AJ's? And if so where is the first one cause the latest version should be fired!!!!!

Lets not dwell.. What is done is done! I'm sure AJ is harder on himself then most of you critics. One one is perfect. He still has a good eye for talent. Thus far there has been so many unexpected injuries. Everyone is a geneuis in hind sight. I would love for AJ to pursue Gruden if things don't work out with Norv. Remember there is talent waiting in the wings is still out there and AJ can smell them out. Chargers players left can do it they are a special team that has proven to will it's way to the post season. I agree with Harts release. My intuition says we are headed in the right direction. Let stay positive. Kevin E u can get it done...My Man!

We know Clinton was crusty, but isn't it odd that A.J. didn't choose to cut his favorite no-show "Buster" Davis instead of Hart?! I mean, at least Hart was a seasoned (albeit mediocre) starter at a crucial position, and probably held some trade value?
No, Charger fans - again I think that this is yet again a symptom of some other, deeper problems going on within this disappointing defensive team, but nobody on the inside is talking. I smell coaches and inter-office politics, but it could be gangrene.
If we don't win Monday night, it will be really bad. But if we lose again and play defense like we did against the Steelers, it will be catastrophic.
Goddamn it, I *still* pick my Chargers to win it! Go BOLTS!!!

Truth is Clinton would have been a salvagable back up. But when AJ gave him a six-year, $18M extension in 2008, it made him way to expensive as a backup. He also had no trade value due to his contract. Everyone can recall when AJ graded himself and mentioned that he was not happy with some personell decisions....Hart was 100% one of them.

The next starter to go is Cromartie- horrible tackler and he think he can live off his reputation of that one great game against the Colts a couple of years ago.
I hope the defense responds tonight, as it has been tense since AJ made those comments last week.

Does anyone see a trade coming as we approach the deadline?

Lewis Delmas is looking a lot better then Larry English right now. Too bad. At least Hart is finally gone. Long overdue.

Good luck and blessings to Clinton Hart and his family. He's a temporary Cinderella story who was a rookie at the age of 25 because he decided to skip playing football at a big university and instead play baseball at a local college so that he could take care of a younger sibling. He had a great 2007 and a mediocre 2008. 2009 spelled the end for Clinton Hart. It seems as though the Chargers can't seem to find a safety to stick around. Since 2004 the safety position has seen a carousel of players including Jerry Wilson, Bhawoh Jue, Marlon McCree and Clinton Hart all getting the axe. Good luck to Ellison, Gregory, Oliver, Weddle and Spillman. If they pay attention to recent Charger history they should know that Safety has been one of the more expendable positions on the roster with high turnover!

I know it may sound fantastic..., or drunk, to some people; but I still say Kassim Osgood could potentially make a great safety for the Chargers.
1. He's tall, big, and fast enough; for sure.
2. He's not afraid to tackle HARD or travel in tight, tough traffic.
3. He's got excellent, proven hands (the #2 receiver in the nation his senior year at SDSU).
4. As an All-Pro on Special Teams, he could be an "enforcer" the much-maligned defensive backfield desperately needs.
1. He's inexperienced on Defense - but he also brings a sensibility to the position having been experienced on the offensive side of the ball.
2. He's unproven - although many of the elements you want in a player in that position are most definitely already there.
3. He wants to play at wide receiver on a team knee-deep in tall, skilled wide receivers, but if he wants to catch balls and be on the field more (which her certainly merits), then let him intercept passes. A catch is a catch is a catch.
I think he's a diamond in the rough, and the clock is ticking..., just waiting for upper management to get their head out of their collective ass, tinkering with an offense that any teenager could coach well enough to score with their multitude of talent. Please, somebody wake up in Chargerville and USE YOUR TALENT to the maximum. It's cruel to watch so many talented players spend most of their time on the sideline.
