The Pressure Is On: Undefeated Broncos Coming To SD

In case you missed it, the Broncos are now 5-0 after defeating the New England Patriots in overtime. After starting 3-0, it was believed that Denver had gotten lucky against some pretty bad teams. At 4-0, I thought that they got a good win against a Dallas team who never plays up to expectations. Now, by beating the Patriots, I blame their win streak on a little luck and just enough good football. And that could be enough to win the AFC West.

So the big question is, where does that leave the Chargers? Last year's Bronco team was just bad enough to implode and serve up the division to an average Chargers team on a silver platter. This year you can't count on a similar self-destruct sequence. That means that our Chargers, the team who has progressively gotten worse since 2006, has to step it up big time against the remaining three-quarters of their schedule. And it all starts next Monday night against Broncos.

Giving the Chargers the benefit of the doubt against the Broncos in Week 6 (and that is a HUGE benefit of the doubt), I can see the Chargers' remaining schedule playing out like this:

W/L Week Date Game
W 6 Oct 19 DEN @ SD
W 7 Oct 25 SD @ KC
W 8 Nov 01 OAK @ SD
L 9 Nov 08 SD @ NYG
L 10 Nov 15 PHI @ SD
L 11 Nov 22 SD @ DEN
W 12 Nov 29 KC @ SD
W 13 Dec 06 SD @ CLE
W 14 Dec 13 SD @ DAL (tough call, counting on the late-season surge)
W 15 Dec 20 CIN @ SD
L 16 Dec 25 SD @ TEN (physical team, even if they fall below expectations)
W 17 Jan 03 WAS @ SD (counting on the Redskins to have a new coach at this point)

That is a 10-6 record, which is pretty good. I see the Broncos remaining schedule playing out like this:

W/L Week Date Game

L 6 Oct 19 DEN @ SD
- 7 Bye
L 8 Nov 01 DEN @ BAL
L 9 Nov 09 PIT @ DEN
W 10 Nov 15 DEN @ WAS
W 11 Nov 22 SD @ DEN
L 12 Nov 26 NYG @ DEN
W 13 Dec 06 DEN @ KC
L 14 Dec 13 DEN @ IND
W 15 Dec 20 OAK @ DEN
L 16 Dec 27 DEN @ PHI
W 17 Jan 03 KC @ DEN

I predict the Broncos to also finish 10-6 (believe it or not, I predicted wins/losses without trying to limit them to a 10-6 record). Obviously with a little more good luck the Broncos could pull out one more win and walk away with the division outright. But if the Broncos do end up tied with the Chargers at the end of the season, things are going to get very interesting.

The first tie-breaker is the head-to-head match-up. In our scenario here both teams go 1-1. The second tie-breaker is record within the division. Again, both teams tie with a 5-1 record. The third tie-breaker is in games against common opponents. Both teams go 8-4 in this scenario. The fourth tie-breaker is games against conference (AFC) opponents. Again, both teams tie with an 8-4 record. That would leave us to a tie-breaker based on strength of victories and then strength of schedule. And that would make the whole thing a big mess.

Let's back up and focus on this week. It all starts against the Broncos on Monday Night. Win that game and you have a chance to be champs. Lose that game and you are most likely going to end up chumps.

That clown of a coach (Josh Mc Daniels)is even more of a punk than Jay Cutler. I guess there is room in Denver for only one clown. And it's only a matter of time until his face morphs into that off his grumpy, old mentor- Bill Bellichek.
That fist-pump garbage at the end of the game against the Pats was hilarious. Is he a head coach, or a cheerleader trying to rally the crowd?

Anyway, the Broncos will be exposed this week against our boys, and it will only get worse for them. Chargers have their work cut out for them as well, as the schedule gets harder against those tough NFC East teams. I hope we can beat the Giants and Eagles. A long time ago I thoght those games would be a Super Bowl preview. I'm not so sure now.

The Broncos will be working off a short week, our Chargers brain trust has an extra week to prepare, and our injured players might heal. That's usually good for at least a standard "3 points" on the betting line, possibly 7. I think that will be enough to spell the margin of victory for our beloved Bolts. We can score on anybody, anytime.
Our defense has been indefensible, but if ever there was a game that played to the strengths of the "design" of our defense, this should be it. If the Bolts D blows THIS game, it's time to dust off the resumes gentlemen; and if you play like you did in Pittsburgh..., just don't come home, ever. I don't mean it in a "bad" way, just get the f*ck out!

It will be interesting to see how the betting line progresses during the week. Chargers are currently (Tuesday PM) favored by 3.5 - 4.0 points.

You haven't even lost to McDaniels yet and you are this angry already? You seem way too worried when your team's supposed to be going to the Superbowl this year.

Let me give you and your friends in San Diego some food for thought:
1. The Chargers are as much of a mess as the media thought the Broncos were before this season started.
2. The Broncos have wins over the 4-1 Bengals, 3-2 Patriots, and 3-2 Cowboys. Those are three teams who are a combined 0-3 against Denver, but 10-2 against the rest of the league.
3. The teams the Chargers lost to have a combined record of 6-4. Teams they won gainst have a combined record of 3-7.

Just exactly who is going to expose who, mark???

A meeting of the mind is needed and leave the egos before entering. Coch Norv stop being so predictable. Be a head coach. You have the ofensive exp. to be sucessful. Football is like the game Chess, you are to do the oposite of what others expect to be sucessful. Players stop pointing fingers at one another during game time. it's embarssing. Close your eyes remember why you play this game and have fun. I believe in you.

There is plenty of season left. #56 should stay. He hasn't been healthy since season started. He's proven player like Breez, Turner etc. and should not be allowed to leave.(Ouch that hurts me still). Rivers please protect the pig skin. Don't waste precious seconds arguing with reaffs, people etc. You are good but can be great. I gave lakers players same this advice last year before they won championship...Brian Shaw was narrating Q and A's and I express this to the whole team. Tomlinson needs go out and play like Ricky Williams. Don't think and do what you do baby! Nothing matters but right now.

Let's mix it up out there. Remember when# 21 and Cool Breeze were running the ofense. We have so many options. Let's keep them guessing. Screen pass to Gates, Tolbert, Sproles, etc. Hand off to Vincent, Bennett Hesterd Run behind Louis Vasquez..Luis Should be Left OL to protect Rivers and open lanes for Tomlinson. Remeber "El que se enjoa pierde"...Who gets mad looses. We are warriors who strike lighting fast.

Ok Mark, take you clown concept and shove it, the only clown on ths server is you.... Anyways, The praise Mcdaniels showed at the end of the game was highly beneficial to the team and the fans. Yes coaches can have fun too.... Mark. Football is a team sport, so why not have fun doing it? Grumpy old Turner should probably take a lesson from Mcdaniels. Chargers are playing soft and for something they dont know what to believe in. Theres new life here at Invesco field, nobody is going to take that from us. To the Bronco nation, GIVE THEM BOLTS HELL".......

Hey Mark, so, you're saying that Tiger Woods, and Venus Williams are cheerleaders too? It is a sign of victory, so I want you to look for one at the end of the game on Monday. And the clown comment, maybe you should scrape off your make up before you make any comments.
Have a great loos this Monday.

I knew I would get a rise out of the Bronco fans after I mocked McDaniels in my previous post. IMAO, the PLAYERS not some idiot coach should be doing the fist pumping.
And what the Bronco's fans don't understand is that a head coach needs to act with a certain sense of composure given that this is barely just a third of the season. Roger Godell doesn't give out the Lombardi Torphy to the best 5-0 team. I am curious to see if the Bronco's win tonight what he will do next- pee his pants?! We'll at least if that happens he will make the field at Qualcomm a little greener but............AIN'T GONNNA HAPPEN!!
