Can The Chargers Win The 2011 Super Bowl?

Among the things that were never to occur in our lifetime, including pigs flying and hell freezing over, the Saints winning a Super Bowl had to be near the top of the list. Well, we all know that the list got a little shorter after coach Sean Payton led a rejuvenated Saints team to victory just a couple of weeks ago.

While Chargers fans feel like their hopes and dreams may be creeping up the never-gonna-happen list, I have to ask one question: Why not us? A team that has had so much recent success only to fall just short in the playoffs, why not the Chargers as Super Bowl champs?

The 2010 edition of the Bolts will be largely unchanged in most areas, and improved where changes are necessary. I mean, with the 31st ranked rushing offense, how can you not improve?

So LT is likely gone...did you notice it isn't 2007 anymore? I love the guy, but the running game was below average with him (I didn't say because of him), and maybe it will be better without him. I'm not exactly thrilled to be hanging up my #21 jersey, but I can't wait to see who is going to take his place. So Darren Sproles and Antonio Cromartie may be gone as well. You can't tell me that those players are not replaceable, and quite possibly upgradeable.

All I'm trying to say is that you, Chargers fans, should be excited! Disappointment ends after the hoisting of the Lombardi Trophy. The Chargers went 13-3 before losing a close one in the playoffs. They just completed their 4th consecutive playoff season, and as Colts fans already know sometimes the 5th time is the charm.

I'm looking forward to an interesting offseason, a full compliment of draft picks, and maybe even a free agent or two for good measure. The Chargers window of opportunity is wide open. Are you ready?

Anonymous said... Feb 22, 2010, 9:39:00 AM are soooo right! I lived thru the real dry seasons, remember the Tommy P. days, ugggg and remember when us getting over .500 was a good season, and how about the glory days with the master Don C. and his ultra powerful offense? Now we are the West Champs for 4 years...what in a ROW! Look at Indy, they were close as well, but kept coming back and they finally got the trophy. Yes, I too will hate to hang up my #21, but he will always be remembered first and foremost as a Charger! But change is good, our running attack (or should I say suggestion) needs much improvement. It's not LT or Sproles, the line has to first open a gap before ANYONE can run through. But one can't forget the days of Fouts and company, we passed our brains out, so similar to today's Bolt Plan of Attack. The downside is without a legitimate or even average run threat, any defense can adjust and defend the pass every down. Rivers is turning into a great QB, one of the best ever as he is still very young and learning....he save many games during our streak as a result of the pass. So yes I am looking forward to some "freshening up" on the run attack, even ranking in the middle of the NFL is enough to keep a defense guessing and that is all we need to play our style of football. Now defense, we have some room to improve here if we truly deserve to win in 2010 at the Big Show. Look at the Jets, a young group who know how to play D like few others, and did they take us to school? I couldn't even imagine if we poised a D close to theirs, with our offensive might, and at least a reasonable run game...can you say unstoppable! I, with many of my fellow Bolt Heads, will all be anxious to see what the draft brings, but really who gets traded and picked up, that will be the key. Rarely, as we all know, does anyone fresh from college come into the NFL and immediately impact a Team. Even a super star RB, which isn't really there in the draft this year, would still have a huge learning curve to be effective in the complicated NFL mix. So, the trades in or out, I feel will be the difference in the new and improved squad. I see that there are no coach changes in 2010, while some would argue some should go, I saw continuity will be a great asset and this is good news. Limit if possible the injuries, maybe Norv can create a couple more plays besides draw up the middle when everyone expects it, and less screens with more short crossing patterns...and who knows.....a party of parties in the Gas Lamp District, a parade down Broadway, oh yeah it can gotta believe...
Go Bolts

Nice to read something positive about the Chargers, seems like that is hard to come by as of late.

Super Bowl? Darn right!! Why not? We are passing team now. We just need 3 solid RB's. They found L.T., why not another. Remember: Paul Lowe,Keith Lincoln,Dick Post,Mike Garrett,James Brooks,Don Woods,Chuck Muncie, Johnny Rodgers,Joe Washington,Marion Butts,Natron Means. Hey we can find another RB, he may not last 9 years. But we just need one good yesr for that Ring.I got nothing but love for L.T. We got to remember it is time to move on,and focus on the Super Bowl!!
