Among the things that were never to occur in our lifetime, including pigs flying and hell freezing over, the Saints winning a Super Bowl had to be near the top of the list. Well, we all know that the list got a little shorter after coach Sean Payton led a rejuvenated Saints team to victory just a couple of weeks ago.
While Chargers fans feel like their hopes and dreams may be creeping up the never-gonna-happen list, I have to ask one question: Why not us? A team that has had so much recent success only to fall just short in the playoffs, why not the Chargers as Super Bowl champs?
The 2010 edition of the Bolts will be largely unchanged in most areas, and improved where changes are necessary. I mean, with the 31st ranked rushing offense, how can you not improve?
So LT is likely gone...did you notice it isn't 2007 anymore? I love the guy, but the running game was below average with him (I didn't say because of him), and maybe it will be better without him. I'm not exactly thrilled to be hanging up my #21 jersey, but I can't wait to see who is going to take his place. So Darren Sproles and Antonio Cromartie may be gone as well. You can't tell me that those players are not replaceable, and quite possibly upgradeable.
All I'm trying to say is that you, Chargers fans, should be excited! Disappointment ends after the hoisting of the Lombardi Trophy. The Chargers went 13-3 before losing a close one in the playoffs. They just completed their 4th consecutive playoff season, and as Colts fans already know sometimes the 5th time is the charm.
I'm looking forward to an interesting offseason, a full compliment of draft picks, and maybe even a free agent or two for good measure. The Chargers window of opportunity is wide open. Are you ready?
