Hey Rob,
What are your thoughts on the bolts getting any compensatory picks? I cannot think of anyone that we lost that did anything significant. And we picked up quite a few free agents to make up for injuries.

We'll have to wait and see. We might get something for losing Igor Olshansky to the Cowboys...not sure about Mike Goff.

Drew Brees...eatin pussy!

Reggie Bush to San Diego???

Well if he ends up being cheaper than sproles, you have to consider...

and if Bush would take a lessor salary, San Diego may be that place.

Kim would sure like it!

A.J. sure knows how to pick talent (Brees), it's to bad he sends them off to other teams to win super bowls.

Hey Rob, Can Joey Porter make a differenc like Godfrey, and Foley did when they came over to the Chargers?

Rob Zepeda said... Feb 8, 2010, 11:44:00 PM

What I like about Joey Porter is his veteran leadership, his championship experience, and the high standards he holds himself and his teammates to. He won't be intimated when he comes into the locker room. I think this team lacks VOCAL veteran leadership right now.

I think Joey Porter is a loudmouth lockeroom litigator who would be all about the spotlight and smack talk... We've got enough of that with Merriman and Phillips. Not only is he too old to sign, he's the exact kind of player AJ Smith doesn't want. Not a chance in hell we sign that guy....Could be a perfect fit for the Raiders though hahaha.

Just trade LT for Bush keep sproles and get rid of michael bennette. Maybe even try trading merriman for another 1st rd pick or 2ns rd pick.

trading lt for bush is probably not going to happen. but that would be pretty good!

Anonymous said... Feb 13, 2010, 10:07:00 PM

trading LT for bush and keeping sproles would give us two of the same back... just one better(Sproles > Bush) than the other. Gotta have a compliment to a the lil quick dudes.

AJ is over-rated and much like Weddle, who is a nice player with good football instincts, but not fast enough or big enough to justify all his picks, AJ just gave up far to much for a RB. We could have picked Javid Best as Detroit did at the bottom of the first round...and traded down to get more picks to do it! Instead we gave away far too much to get a running back. Contrast that with the Cowboys who picked up the #1 Wide Receiver and a top-5 rated pick in the draft by trading their round pick for a 4th round pick! This is a good run-running back, but he has questionable receiving and blocking skills and less speed than several backs we could have had with no trade...including BEST. I know for fact from Charger insiders that as recently as two months ago AJ didn't even know who Toby Gerhart was? What? The GM didn't know who the Stanford player was who singlehandedly beat USC and finished 2nd in the Heisman. We desperately need a NT. We are short at CB and linebacker? Yes we need running back but we gave up a starting linebacker, a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick in a draft for a running back when you can get a great back in many other rounds? FYI, all the experts have said this draft is estimated to have as its strength players in rounds 2-4...but we gave up two picks in 2-4 and now only have have ONE THIRD ROUND PICK LEFT! AJ is living off old PR and the Chargers will suffer for it because he is not getting value or depth for his trade decisions.

That was a great pick up. Ryan Matthews is going to be special in the NFL watch. What I would do is package our 2nd and 3rd round pick for next year and move up to the top of the 2nd round this year. If that does not work I would trade spoles and maybe my 3rd round next years pick. We are paying spoles way too much, not cool. One of those would get us to the top of the 2 round.

2.) Taylor Mays that would be a great pick
3.) Cam Thomas or Geno Atkins one of those will be in the 3rd
4.) package a trade and get Marshawn Lynch two dominating RB.
The rest would be the best on the board at that time.

Ryan Matthews is great, but what are we going to do about the glaring hole in at DT? Our 3-4 is utterly dependent on a solid run-stuffing DT, and we do not have one that qualifies. I would have preferred drafting Best at our regular spot and using our 40th overall on best available DT (Terrence Cody maybe, Linval Joseph). This would have filled two HUGE needs with solid players, instead of filling one need with an only slightly better player than Best. I think the problem is that we kept Sproles, who profiles too closely to Best to compliment him well.

Ryan Mathews could turn out to be a great pick. However, he was 20 years old when as a college freshman, 20 before he graduated from high school. Meaning his average high school opponent was 17 yrs old while he was 19 1/2. Big advantage. He was the age of the average JR. when he was a college freshman. He is older than Darren Mcfadden and CJ Spiller. He has had a big age advantage since he was a freshman in high school. To some of you I am sure this means nothing. But this will be the first time Ryan Mathews will be competing on a level playing field. That is if his listed Birtdate of May 1st 1987 is accurate.

my initial reaction is we gave up too much but it's hard going 100 percent with your picks like most people expect their GM to do, only time will tell so let's see what happens. Maybe AJ can pull something out of his butt that will start pleasing most of you :P

Who the fuck is Donald Butler? i'm more upset with this pick then yesterdays miss of DWall. we need a NT and a S!!!!!

Anonymous said... Apr 23, 2010, 6:52:00 PM

Okay mathews was fine. But a MLB? Really?

manuel said... Apr 24, 2010, 3:32:00 PM

wow.. everybody is a better GM than AJ Smith.. it sounds like it.. the guy above doesnt even know who donald butler is.. well, he shouldnt even speak.. before the draft everybody is all, oh lets get ryan matthews and cam thomas then we'll be good.. well, he got him.. and still many people are crying and whining that he gave up too much.. he traded up to get cam thomas, who should've went in the 2-3 rounds.. he got a top 5 ILB who i guarantee will help run defense and play on goal line situations.. everybody needs to shut up and wait to see if these are dumb moves.. many people thought cromartie was a stupid pick.. they thought larry english was a dumb pick.. heck, i remember some people thought merriman was a stupid pick.. none of u guys know what ur talking about.. i just look on the bright side and look at the people we got.. not what we gave up.. and i will not say its a stupid move til we see what those players become.. u guys call urself chargers fans.. shut ur mouth.. we go to the playoffs every year.. regardless of no running game and no true NT.. we're not far from a super bowl.. we should've just kept LT and drafted 7 kickers who can make a field goal in the playoffs.. we didnt lose the game cuz of the running game or our NT.. did everyone forget cromartie's "deer in the headlights" play.. no.. cuz none of u guys know what ur talking about.. and call AJ an idiot when u urself dont even possess the qualified attributes to even think u can do his job.. u guys are stupid.. why dont u guys become lions or rams fans so u at least have something to cry about in football.

ryan matthews is a freak, running style of L.T., but faster. I think he will end up being a good addition

Anonymous said... Apr 30, 2010, 7:48:00 PM

although cromartie on the jets with revis will be scary, lets hope we dont see them again
