We really need an upgrade at the FB position someone to be feared and make a hole through that line! We have been using little people at that position for awhile and I believe it has also contributed to a poor running game. A true blocking FB is highly valued! That dude from the Terps looks good But can he hit play in and play out at 100% of the time? I hope we score big time in the rookie FA pickup!

Chris, according to bleacher report we also picked up Jeremy Williams, a big wide receiver out of tulane.
we also got brandon lang from troy.. DE/OLB.. but i see him playing DE for a team that doesnt have a good DE.. i think he may actually start.
although our fullbacks arent the best blockers, they are good receivers and would be decent lead blockers if they were actually used.
I really hope Cory Jackson is a big blocking FB that we need. technically we could move hester/tolbert to RB if we had a better FB to block. Hester isn't good at anything but i would like to see what Tolbert could do with a good lead block, Let alone what Mathews is going to do. I wonder what UDFA RB's Chargers will bring in or maybe trade for another back?
If we do keep Corry Jackson, what's the use of having hester and tolbert? Also, it would've been great to get donovan warren to secure CB depth. Unfortunately he was picked up by the Jets. we need better CB depth. You can never have too many CBs. Also, one part of the draft we didn't address is DE end. I believe we need someone to compliment Castillo. Also, we didn't address RT...
we missed out on Blount. he went undrafted. We could of turned him into a good FB
I am a Terp fan and thus have followed Cory for all his 4 years a UMD. It has helped that his Dad is a friend of mine. The only problem I've had with Cory at Maryland is that he was almost always used as a blocking back. In that role he was the best in the ACC. What upset me is that he had so few times to run the ball or catch a pass. When he had the opportunity to do so he was AWESOME and almost always successful. I guess he just didn't fit in our HC's game plan which is a shame as he was an awesome talent.
would mind Jackson winning the FB spot and moving tolbert our 3 RB (short yardage back) and cutting Hester, Marcus Mason and Curtis Brinkley.
i dont think that the FBs are to blame for our run game. they just werent used. hester is a great special teamer, and we cannot afford to lose another one of them (i think its very hard to estimate how positive osgood was for this team).
and tolbert and hester looked good at the end while running out the clock. so, theoretically, you have mathews (a classic "franchise" back imo), sproles (a great outside runner, receiver) and two big, short-yardage backs with tolbert and hester. if we keep jackson, we will see how this plays out.
Looks like The Chargers signed Running Back Shawnbrey McNeal out of SMU!!! An Absolute Steal, as he could have been a 4th/5th Round Pick...Nice Grab SD!!
Don't forget about Brandon Lang from Troy!! At 6'4 266 the guy has some serious potential, a lot of people had him mocked in the 3rd and 4th. I think he might be our best UDFA pick-up, no doubt in my mind he makes the roster.
..ditto what los said...bravo AJ Smith once again for doing exxtra homework...6'4 266 Brandon Lang is a beast!!..dont be surprised if hes starting opposite LCastillo..pure pass rusher outta troy((see: DeMarcus Ware,Osi Umenyiora))
And please dont sleep on Seyi===>WR Fresno St...6'4 and really finds the ball at peak...same squad as Matthews...imagine three WR set with 6'5(VJ) 6'5(MF) 6'4(AG) and him...((as we slowly faze out "Bust"er Davis))...the Shawnbrey McNeal one is huge !! ..Westbrook shiftiness..2x state track champ..immediate help on KR..
on the chargers website they listed 20 UDFA. some interesting names, hopefully they push the veterans and if they are better, let em play!
imo, what we need out of these UDFAs, is one or two backups/projects for the OLINE, a RB and either a slot receiver guy and/or a speedy deep threat. VJ, M80 and AG keep the safeties honest, so a welkerlike guy would be great. maybe even split out sproles.

Sounds like we have some quality guys too!
Also don't forget Hester's and Tolbert's contribution on special teams--this is even more important with Osgood and now Dobbins bone.
gone.
We should have drafted RB Dwyer instead of that QB. He was cheap. I could see Dwyer & Mathews coming out of the backfield, only in my dreams. Oh well the Chargers get a B grade from me.
McNeal may be an absolute steal. check out his shiftiness, speed, receiving hands. whoa!

Cory Jackson known as one of the better blocking fullbacks in college last year, but look at and listen to the call by Paul McGuire on one of his few carries in his career at Maryland. Most people have no idea why he wasn't used more. The Chargers got a really interesting player, and he was a special team stud too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uasYD5Y-ico
yes
Cory Jackson from Maryland: as a running back he can do everything you have heard or think he can, and more.
He blocks, runs, catches on offense and blocks and tackles on special teams. Can catch with a cast on his good hand. For my money, the best overall Terp player for all his 4 years at Maryland. He loves to hit - just ask him! Highly motivated, committed, very tough and durable - missed very few games. And I like the last name, too - but no relation I know of!
