Three And Out: June 28, 2010

The Chargers initiate a youth movement on their defensive line, however the national media doesn't seem so impressed. Also, LT is tired of being doubted and claims he'll win a Super Bowl with the Jets.

CHARGERS RELEASE IAN SCOTT, LOOK TO YOUNG PLAYERS TO FILL VOID

The San Diego Chargers released veteran defensive tackle Ian Scott last week, in a move that could signal the team is pleased with the progress of it's young defensive tackles Cam Thomas and Vaughn Martin. Also expected to be in the mix is Ryon Bingham who missed last season with a torn biceps.

Ian Scott never quiet panned out for the Bolts; he certainly had the size to anchor as a 3-4 nose tackle but lacked the upper body strength and didn't display much of a mean streak. He was brought in as someone who Ron Rivera had previous experience with in Chicago, but Scott turned out to be nothing more than a stop gap. It will be interesting to see how Cam Thomas and Vaughn Martin fit into the fix of an already crowded defensive line unit.

BOLTS' CURRENT D-LINE FAILING TO IMPRESS NATIONAL MEDIA

The Chargers find themselves near the bottom of Yahoo Sports' preseason defensive line rankings:

"28. San Diego Chargers: It was only two years ago that the Chargers had a 3-4 line featuring Pro Bowler Jamal Williams to go with rugged ends Igor Olshansky and Luis Castillo(notes). These days, only Castillo remains and that’s troubling. He’s decent, but hardly a guy you build around. The rest of the group includes Jacques Cesaire(notes), Ogemdi Nwagbuo(notes) and Ryon Bingham(notes). Not exactly fearsome."

Rodney won a Super Bowl as a safety. Drew as a QB. Both were younger. LT fails to understand he is an over 30 running back with statistically declining skills. He should really be comparing himself to those RB's in the past who swapped teams late int heir careers: Dickerson, OJ, Emmit, Edge James, George, etc. 29 is the drop-off year. One year and then the Jets release him. Mark it.

all good points, but what most people fail to understand is none of those backs went to a team that was 1st in rushing, and no back succeeds in a "pass protection O-Line". look LT is not 23 year old LT, and our Offensive line is not anywhere near the smash mouth bruisers they were in 06'. as for injuries see how healthy you are after running into 300 lb lineman 20+ times a game. it's not that our O-line didn't make holes for LT, it's just the Defenses were running through them to greet him in the backfield.

LT is going to basically the same system, that's being run here. Brain Schottenhiemer was PR Qb coach and is calling the plays, that sent Norv home. also wasn't Thomas Jones 30, 31? and he rushed for what. 1,400 yards? and thomas jones is no LT. he'll rush for over a 1,000 and with less touches. mark it.

peace out

LT is done, even at his current best he is no better than a backup, and that's if he stays healthy which he hasn't done for years, I say he gets hurt in pre season now that he's finally going play those meaningless games, the real irony is that LT is bein just as much a child as AJ has always been, i thought LT had some class but turns out he was a cry baby all along, i think the name "baby LT" is now truly fitting

Thomas jones had no where near the workload Tomlinson has had. Plus the jets just lost alan faneca. Shonne Greene will not lose the starting job to LT. The jets also drafted McKnight this year. LT will have under 700 yards rushing and will not be with the jets next year. Mark It.
