Corey Liuget

The San Diego Chargers have selected Corey Liuget, DT from Illinois with the 18th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft

Liuget belongs in the discussion with the other elite defensive tackles in this class. Arguably this year's most productive DT against the run and also very active rushing the passer. Fires off the ball, maintains sound positioning, has hands that never stop moving, gets off blocks quickly, and closes on ball-carriers and quarterbacks with speed and power. Has the size and strength to move offensive lineman into the backfield. Also comfortable tackling in space and has the awareness to diagnose screens and draws and bat down balls at the line. Liuget has skyrocketed up draft boards this season and should be gone by the mid first.

I like this pick a lot. Immediate starter...fills huge DE need...Improves run D and pass rush. Perfect compliment to the guys around him. Could make English better.

I was totally shocked too. Completely forgot he was even on the board when it was our turn. I was think Cam Jordan all the way, especially after NE took Solder. Obviously they feel that Liuget is a better fit at the 5 tech. than Jordan otherwise he would have been the pick. I think we lucked out big time with Liuget as he was projected to go top 15. Time will tell...Now we need to go get another edge rusher, ILB, RT, and WR.

OLB-Brooks Reed, would love this pick but he'll be gone. Maybe Acho?
ILB- Martez Wilson, same deal here. Maybe Sheppard?
WR- Greg Little, not little but a little raw or perhaps Hankerson or Jernigan
RT- Marcus Gilbert or James Brewer

Cameron Jordan seemed like the obvious pick at 18 aside from one glaring flaw AJ could not overlook......... a DUI in 2008. Reference VJ. That must have been the deal breaker for AJ whos big on character.
