The San Diego Chargers have placed tackle Jared Gaither on the “Reserve-Injured” list with a groin injury. Gaither played in four of the team’s 10 games. He missed almost all of training camp and the first three games of the regular season with a back injury. He suffered a groin injury late in the Chargers’ Oct. 7 game at New Orleans in Week 5.
Head Coach Norv Turner dedicated a few minutes of todays media conference regarding Gaither. The first question was regarding the decision to place him on the IR list. “We have given Jared Gaither every opportunity to be a part of this team. It just has not worked out.” he also added if Gaither, had done everything he could possibly do to return to the field.
“He obviously physically has not been able to be a part of it. It just is what it is and there is not a whole lot left to be said about it.”
Now, that Gaither has been placed on the IR, the team needs to make plans to sign someone else to replace him and build up the line. “Kevin Haslam has been practicing on our practice squad and will probably make a move here in the next day.”
He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2007 Supplemental Draft. He played college football at Maryland. Gaither has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was waived on November 29. Gaither was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Chargers on November 30, 2011. On March 14, 2012 Gaither signed a 4 year contract with Chargers.
