San Diego Chargers place Bigby on Reserve-Injured; re-sign LB Bront Bird
The Chargers have placed strong safety Atari Bigby on the “Reserve-Injured” list and signed linebacker Bront Bird to take his place on the roster.
Bigby started all 11 games for the Chargers at strong safety and was the team’s second-leading tackler with 79 stops. He injured his groin during last Sunday’s game against Baltimore. A seventh-year veteran, Bigby joined the Chargers on a two-year contract after spending six seasons in Green Bay (2005-10) and the 2011 season in Seattle. Corey Lynch filled in for Bigby last Sunday after he was injured.
Bird is a 6-4, 250-pound inside linebacker who played in nine games with the Chargers in 2011 after making the squad as an undrafted rookie from Texas Tech. He tallied seven tackles on defense and eight on special teams. He went to training camp with the Chargers in 2012 but was released during final roster cuts in August.
The Chargers also filled a vacancy on their practice squad with the signing of safety Sean Cattouse, an undrafted rookie from California-Berkeley who went to training camp with the team this year. He replaces tackle Kevin Haslam on the practice squad after he was promoted to the active roster on Saturday, Nov. 24.
