Starting this week Jeremy Meyer will take you up close and personal with a member of the San Diego Charger Girls. In the first edition, we talk to Amanda. So sit down, relax, and get to know your 2012 Charger Girls.
Despite the Chargers on-field struggles, the one thing that has been consistently great are the girls on the sidelines, the Chargers Cheerleaders. This week, we spotlight the beautiful cheerleader Amanda. The gorgeous blonde is no stranger to the spotlight having danced since the age of four. The second year Charger and 2010-2011 Rookie of the Year achieved success long before reaching the Bolts, having competed in Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" in 2006. That same year, she represented the US in Australia and won he title of "Dancer of the World" .
You'd think being a dancer was always her dream, but you'd be quite surprised. “I actually wanted to be the red fire truck until I realized that wasn't normal. Then I wanted to be a fire fighter.” No doubt she would've had the courage it takes to fight fires when you find out that at the age of 18, she left home to dance on a cruise ship for a year.
So having danced on land and on the ocean, what does she find exciting about being a Charger girl? “My favorite thing about being a Charger Girl is the amazing opportunities we are blessed with." Amanda continued "Aside from the excitement and thrill of game day, we also get to work in the San Diego community, perform charity work, travel and have fun photo shoots.”
Although she loves everyone on the team, who would be her favorite Charger. “My favorite Chargers player is Eric Weddle. because he is from the Inland Empire and also because he is a great person,on and off the field. I was fortunate enough to work the Muscular Dystrophy telethon with him and he was so inspirational with a huge heart for helping people."
Amanda's proudest experience on the team was nominating and granting her charity of choice, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, for the Charger Girls swimsuit calendar proceeds. To purchase a calendar and donate to a worthy cause, go to Charger Girls Calendar
