The Chargers have claimed former New Orleans Saints cornerback Johnny Patrick off waivers, the team announced today.
A third-round pick of the Saints in 2011 (88th
overall), the 5-11, 190-pound Patrick played in nine games as a rookie
and 15 games last season. He totaled 21 tackles this past season to go
along with three passes defensed, while adding five stops for the
Saints’ special teams. As a rookie he totaled eight tackles on defense
and one on special teams.
The
24-year-old Patrick is a native of DeLand, Florida. He attended the
University of Louisville where he was a first-team All-Big East pick as a
senior and finished his career with 171 tackles, 22 passes defensed,
nine interceptions and two blocked field goals. Patrick also competed as
a sprinter on the Cardinals’ track and field team as both a freshman
and sophomore.
